Bell`s palsy

Bell`s Palsy is a condition that causes the facial muscles to weaken or become paralyzed. It`s caused by trauma to the 7th cranial nerve. Facial palsy is typified by inability to control movement in the facial muscles. The paralysis is of the infra-nuclear/lower motor neuron type.

Bells palsy is not as uncommon as is generally believed. In human terms this is 1 of every 5000 people, every year. The percentage of left or right side cases is approximately equal, and remains equal for recurrences.

Causes Bell`s Palsy:-

Although the exact causes of Bell`s palsy are not known, the condition is thought to be brought upon due to inflammation and swelling of the facial nerve. This in turn could be due to:

Viral infections such as herpes, mumps, influenza, infectious mononucleosis or HIV

Bacterial infections such as Lyme disease or Tuberculosis

Multiple sclerosis

Myasthenia gravis or tuberculosis

Guillain-Barre Syndrome

Chronic disease such as diabetes

Traumatic injury to the face or head

Tumor causing nerve compression

Stress

Pregnancy

The facial nerves control a number of functions, such as blinking and closing the eyes, smiling, frowning, lacrimation, and salivation. They also innervate the stapedial muscles of the middle ear and carry taste sensations from the anterior two thirds of the tongue. So, these functions will be altered.

The main symptom of Bell`s palsy is a sudden weakness or paralysis in one side of your face that causes it to droop. This may make it hard for you to close your eye on that side of your face. Other symptoms include:

Drooling

Eye problems, such as excessive tearing or a dry eye.

Loss of ability to taste.

Pain in or behind your ear.

Numbness in the affected side of your face.

Increased sensitivity to sound.

Homoeopathic Treatments:

A homoeopathic approach to Bell’s palsy often works best in combination with other therapies. Homoeopathic remedies can promote effective functioning of the nervous system and offer therapeutic effects, therefore possibly preventing some causes of Bell`s palsy. It can be used to treat symptoms related to the nervous system and aid faster recovery.

Under the guidance of homeopath, homeopathic remedies will be successfully incorporated into your treatment plan.
