Myopathy

Myopathy refers to a class of degenerative skeletal muscle disease that is not caused by nerve dysfunction. Myopathy causes progressive weakness and wasting of skeletal muscle.

Classification Inherited forms:-

1. Muscular dystrophies

2. Myotonia

3. Congenital myopathies

4. Mitochondria myopathies

5. Metabolic myopathies

6. Inflammatory myopathies

Acquired forms: -

1. Drug induce myopathy

2. Toxic agent induced myopathy

3. Dermatomyositis

4. Polymyositis

Symptoms:-

Weakness in the voluntary muscle of the arms, legs and trunk, drooping upper eyelids, foot drop, facial weakness and lack of reflexes in the affected muscle.

Investigations:-

A blood test to measure the level of various muscle enzymes. An electromyogram (EMG)— to gauge electrical activity in muscle A biopsy of a weak muscle Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) — to try to show abnormal muscle Some patients may have a blood test for myositis-specific antibodies (immune proteins). This test helps detect myopathy

Treatment:-

Although there`s no cure for myopathies, treatment can improve your muscle strength and function. The earlier treatment is started in the course of disease, the more effective it is, leading to fewer complications. Corticosteroids are widely prescribed, but it has many adverse effects.

Homoeopathic medicine:-

The homoeopathic treatment of this condition is aimed at treating the symptoms and repairing the damage to the muscles of extremities. Medicines are used to treat the muscle damage and muscular weakness sensation of the affected extremities These medications suppress your immune system, limiting the production of antibodies and reducing muscle inflammation, as well as improving muscle strength and function. Homeopathy has reasonably good treatment to offer for myopathies, which works at two levels:

1. Controls further progress of disease

2. Improves the symptoms of pain, fatigue and mobility
